What more can you ask for from beautiful Northern California. It is not too often that you can race at Thunderhill with high temperatures of only in the low to mid 70's with bright sunny skies and hardly any wind in the morning with a nice breeze in the afternoon. Well, this past weekend was one of those gorgeous race weekends that rewarded all the 944 Spec driver's with their personal best lap times. |

NASA Arizona held the traditional Firebird Night race in April this year instead of the summer dates of the past. This year event was an all day affair with more activities going on that you could imagine.(For a report of all the other NASA Arizona activities click here.) For the 944 class this also brought some special things including rain, darkness and Darren Law 2009 24 hours of Daytona Overall winner (Brumos Porsche/Riley DP) in a 944 spec car. |

NorCal 944-SPEC started their first race for the 2009 season under rainy skys but that was not enough to dampen the spirit and excitement that comes from opening weekend. |

 The March PIR event saw the return of past champions and track record holders. Norm Hamden, Glen Gormley and Jon Ariano all made the return to the track. They combined with other 944 guys to bring the racer count to 16 over the weekend with 14 starters each day. |

Racing in early January is definitely an Arizona thing as the weather is always perfect. 2009 was no exception. This year’s season opener was going to be different in that the past two championship winner’s were absent. However this left the door open for new winners and new opportunities. The only question was who could step up. |
