Race Report PIR October 2007 October saw 944 spec returning to the ever interesting PIR circuit for rounds 16 and 17 of the Arizona regional championship. The championship is down to two drivers and a couple of the best in all of 944 spec, Norm Hamden in his 84 #99 car and Glenn Gormley in the #924 924S aka “Peace Train”. Coming in Norm had scant lead of 5 points after drops and in recent races Glenn driving the Peace Train held the edge in speed and race wins. These two races would play a large role in deciding the series champion. October Podium |

September in Arizona is the time we dust off our race cars and head out to the track. With any luck temperatures will be under 100F. This turned out to be one of the best weather weekends in recient memory and the racing proved even more fun. |

Doug & Robin Hillman of VFC Engineering (www.VFC-Engineering.com) have committed to putting up $400 per weekend for contingecy money at Midwest events next year. This is straight cash, not discounts/certificates/coupons, for Spec class cars. We only need 4 cars next year at any event to make this happen. With Toyo bucks, and more sponsors in the wings, we'll be paying YOU to race.
Doug is also looking to build cars to suit - Spec, Cup, or SuperCup. He will also assist you in any parts of your own build that you need help in (e.g. custom cage, etc.). Doug will be at the NASA Midwest events for the rest of this year, and next year. He is also avaiable for trackside support. Big thanks to Doug & Robin of VFC for having faith in a fledgling (but rapidly growing) program.

This was one of my best racing weekends ever. Yeah, it was hot, but not too bad. The close racing/driving more than made up for that. We had 7 racers in the fight: Ariano, Gormelly –from the AZ group, Foxx, Memo, Dunn, Weitze, and Comeau from the SoCal group. In addition, we had Robert, Fred, my brother Tony, Jim Hicks and Jon Ariano’s dad, in the HPDE groups. |
