Sunday Race

The race on Sunday took a somber mood after Greg's accident.  I missed the race but thanks to Rick and Sid for supplying the details.

Rick's Sunday report:

Rick from pole chooses the outside of Turn 1 for the inside line leading to 2.  Rick gets a good jump on the green flag but is still barely next to Jim going through 2.

Jim is clearly ahead by the turn in for 3, but goes off at the exit of 4.  Rick passes.  Jim also goes very wide through 7 and now Rick has a substantial lead.

Jim tracks Rick down over the next 2-3 laps and catches him.  Rick can pull away through most of the corners, but Jim is back on his tail through 11.  Rick holds Jim off through 11 one time, then the next lap Jim and Rick come out of 11 side by side, drag race on the start/finish straight.

Jim leads into 1, Rick goes outside Jim in 1 carrying more speed and passing Jim, but ends up in the marbles in 2 and Jim repasses.  Rick then gets swallowed up getting lapped by lots of the PRC 911's.

Sid's Sunday report:

On Sunday we had our own flag for the start.  Because I qualified 5th and Greg wasn't able to race, I was bumped up to 4th position for the start of the race.  I knew I had to get a good start and try to get in front of Steve within the first couple of turns if I wanted to place 3rd so luckily, I was able to do it.  When I got in front of Steve by Turn 2, I was right behind Jim as he was sliding almost out of control trying to catch Rick.  When we reach Turn 4, Jim went four wheels off but managed to get right back on track in front of me so I couldn't capitalize on his mistake.  Steve was right behind me pushing hard and trying to find an area to pass.

Once Jim's tires got up to operating temperature, he was gone and gunning down Rick.  I knew I wouldn't be able to catch them so I concentrated on driving a clean fast race so Steve had to really push himself harder in order to find a place to pass.  We must have had at least three full laps where he would catch me on some turns and I would pull away on some others.  Guess we both have different areas of the track that we feel more comfortable in pushing harder at.

With a large group of faster 911's behind us, we started getting passed and that is when I was able to take advantage of the traffic as it created a larger gap between us.  Once I had that gap, I knew I would be able to pull off another 3rd place win.
