NorCal began it’s 944SPEC CASH race series April 14-15 at Thunderhill. We had Todd, Aaron, Robbin and Matt joining us from Utah.
Todd and Aaron participated in our NorCal Inaugural race last August and it was great seeing them again.
Todd trailer the “Red Rat” down and Aaron trailer his custom Corvette which had more RWHP than the combined 944SPEC starting grid for the weekend.
Debut was the #95 “Thunderbolt McKing” car in it’s first shakedown race piloted by Steve Huey.
Greg’s #43 “Dinoco” car freshly painted in “Dinoco Blue”.
We had sunny spring weather leading up to the weekend but on Saturday we had intermittent rain. It was not heavy rain but it would rain for a little bit, stop and just when you thought the track would dry off it would rain a little more and stop. I thought Saturday morning was going to be another frantic morning looking for parts when Todd shorted out his DME trying to jump start Aaron’s Corvette. We made a call to Bill Pennock to see if he can pull the DME from his parts car but with the greatest of luck, Greg had a spare DME in his parts bin and was able to get the “Red Rat” running again and ran it did as Todd took the pole position. Our race started around 1:10PM and the track was fairly dry. There were slick sections of the track but overall traction was pretty good. It started to rain again towards the last three laps of the race and it’s times like this where I start to think it’s probably worth the little extra weight to keep the windshield wipers and motor. Greg took 1st, Todd 2nd, Steve 3rd, Ken 4th.
