Conclusion

It was not enough to just come up with a car, the promoter of the LeMons race (Jay Lamm) also want a car and team theme.  We traded friendly banter back and forth because he didn't like any of my car theme ideas.  He suggested we cover our car in Easter grass and dress our team in furry bunny outfits and we'll be in!  Smile   Oh the humiliation of having to dress in bunny fur! Tongue out

ImageFortunately for us Jay liked my "Fish out of Water" theme.  I found a place that can make low quantity custom T-Shirts available for the team, family and friends to order.

Our pit area canopy was draped with a fishing net decorated with a plastic crab and other sea life.  We also strung up inflatable fish with fishing lines around the canopy

I had an elaborate graphics design for the car in mind but the decor also needed to be included in the $500 price limit.  One of our 944-Spec sponsors FBP.com was kind enough to print out number plates and the "Fish out of Water" logo for us.  The "Finding Nemo" characters on the car were not decals but a pack of peel on/off kid's bedroom wall stickers which we bought off the shelf for $19.

Because the rear light assembly needed to be removed, we replaced it with sheets of aluminum we bought at Orchard Supply Hardware for $25 and used red and yellow racers tape to make it look like the real thing.

All glass except the front windshield had to be removed.  The rear quarter windows were taken off.  The rear hatch glass can be removed with the rear hatch door but the rear spoiler would have gone with it.  A 944 just doesn't look right without the distinctive rear spoiler.  I had an old rear hatch where the glass was separating from the frame and used it as a replacement after we broke the glass off.  We tried saving the glass but it was a pain trying to get it off.  So, we took a hammer to it and smashed it.

The rear harpoon cannon was made from scraps of foam board and cardboard tubing, painted and "aged" to look like metal.
