Page 8 of 8 Conclusion:It was a fun race and there were some great cars and teams. My favorite was fellow PCA member Jeff Reitmeir's team "Circus Maximus" - great costumes, car decorations and car prep even if it was a BMW . I thought they built up an insurmountable lead but heard they blew a tire in the last three laps and lost first place by seven seconds.
Team "Do or Die" had some talented drivers racing that heavy Hearst around. They went for armor and anyone dumb enough to be on it's outside tail in a turn deserves to get hit.
Our fellow 944 team and pit neighbor "Team Santa Cruz" had a nicely prep car and would have been a contender if they didn't have mechanical problems - nice bunch of guys who produced a great in-car video of the race worth viewing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGZ8bQz3wJY
Our team had a great time and it was a good learning experience. When we first started and our car came into the pits, everyone was milling around not quite sure what to do. By Sunday we actually look like a pit crew with someone cleaning the windshield, someone checking the oil, someone checking the tires, someone refueling and someone helping the driver out and into the car. We were realistic with our goals in a untested, totally stock car. The car turned out to have a great motor and does not burn oil. If we were to run this race again with this car it would be better prepared. Just having a tire budget with the stickiest tire allow by the LeMons rule (190 or greater treadwear) would make a big difference. The suspension is whatever we can spend pending the assigned residual value from Jay Lamm. The A/C compressor, heater core, dash wiring, catalytic converter are still on the car. We ran out of time to remove them but will cleaned them up to lose more weight for the next race. A big thanks to the 24 hours of LeMons promoter Jay Lamm for a truly unique and entertaining event. Special thanks to our regular 944-Spec series sponsors: Art from AutoPoint Motors for spotting and repairing the clutch bell housing and John from EASY http://www.easypor.com for changing out the damaged front strut assembly so we can finish the race. As stated earlier our primary objective was to have fun and the objective was met. I think this quote from one of our drivers sums it up quite nicely "I didn't think my very first wheel-to-wheel action would be in The Road Warrior's Flying Circus. I probably would have been scared if I wasn't chuckling the whole time."
