A brief history about myself. My name is Ken Frey I live about 60 mi. SW of Chicago in the Midwest region. I've been in TT for the last 4 yrs. and decided to get into W2W. It was hard to pick a group but finally decided to go with the 944 Spec. I purchased my car in Jan 09 with intent on getting it finished in time for the 2009 season. A 85 1/2 944. That never happened because of an addiction to my 04 GTO. Trying to run in TT and build a car at the same time doesn't work well. Well the GTO is gone now, sold....RIP, memories are fond but it's time to move on. (sniff sniff, tears welling up)

The build started in Feb 09 but stalled for reasons stated above but began again in earnest a few months ago. I will also try to share the cost with you as we progress. Lets hop in the time machine and go back to Feb 09.............. I purchased the car for $850 and begain to strip it. I set up an Ebay account and started selling the parts. After selling fees I've netted $663.21 from the sale of parts, SO FAR. I still have some to sell but wanted to finish the build before I get rid of the rest of the parts. I have $186.79 in the car.

I bought some tools, dry ice, solvents and manual. $70.02 $256.99 in the car. The dry ice didn't work very well. A heat gun and scraper took the heavey stuff off. Big wire brushes that fit on the grinder worked well too. The sticky glue type stuff came off with Acetone and muscle. I've got the interior of the car completly gutted at this point. No dash or wires either.

Lets get back in the time machine and move forward to Sept 12 2010. I took the motor to Autobahn, one of the last events for the Midwest, and gave it to Nick and his crew from Bennington Motorsports, a 944 sponsor, so they could work their "Black Magic" and bring life back to the ailing motor.

In Oct 2010 I met up with an old friend that I hadn't seen in years and was telling him about the 944 build. Next thing I knew my car was in his shop getting the cage installed. Our agreement was that he'd only work on it in his spare time. He has a regular full time job and this was just side work. If anyone is building and needs a cage, send me an EM and I'll hook you up with Ed.

This past weekend I worked on the insides of the doors. Got them cleaned up and made sure no sharp edges as to catch on the drivers suit when climbing in or out. Sanded them up, wiped them down and painted them with Rustoleum Hammer finish paint. Cleaned and lubed up the latches for smooth operation and installed. Paint, primer and sand paper.......$25 Total car cost $966.99
