Shannon - answers in bold below
----------------------------------------

Just a few follow up questions on Neal's email.
What is the performance advantage of the solid mounts?

Likely small. May increase speed of shifting (speculation only)

For comparison purposes, how much do they cost?

A lot more than urethane. A quick web search will give you a more exact number

What is the typical life of the stock mounts i.e. how many seasons can I expect to get out of the stock mounts vs. the solid ones?

Total failure of the stock mounts is rare, but stiffness can decrease over time. No data on comparative life

What is the cost of performing the modification proposed by Neal if a mechanic does it?

To do it with the trans in place, maybe 1/2 hour of labor

Where are you going with this?

Thanks Eric.

I was curious. I have never changed mounts before and the $250 price tag for a new tranny mount seemed steep. My car has been raced since 2007 so I didn't know if this is something I'm going to have to deal with, and if so, what it will cost.

Just wanted to get some apples to apples information on all of the proposed options.

No worries. Tranny mounts are not a maintenence item, even in race cars, as long as they're in decent shape to begin with.

Eric is correct.

The tranny mounts and engine mounts are things that you may choose to replace on initial build. They tend to last quite a long time in racing cars. My gearboxes use the early mounts and mine are original never replaced. Engine mounts do wear over time and get replaced during initial engine build or rod bearing change. Then they tend to last 5 years or more. Not big maintince issue.

I have been racing my 944 spec for nearly 10 years and have been tracking it for 11 years. Most of the parts just last and last.
