I am for it if they are faster, but only if they are faster.

We would have to go to a one tire rule. That is the only rule I am in favor of changing.

If the 225/50-15's do make it back into production AND NASA allows us to use RA1's in 2010, I would still like to explore the possibility of the switch to the 205/50-15.

#1: They are cheaper
#2: They are more readily available and being the most popular size, no chance of them not being in stock.
#3: We can still enjoy the benefit of buying top spec Miata teams take offs to save even more money.
#4: They should be faster which would allow us to run a little closer to the front.

Just my
I agree with Mike as this will be a swoon for us as we'll be able to join in the SM buying power and buy some cheap take offs that are still good for warmup / practice tires.

Ordered a set of 205/50/15 RA-1's, shaved, and a new set of R-888's, also shaved to compare this weekend. I will get Traqmate data from a couple different drivers on them to compare. We have a 3 race weekend starting tomorrow, so we should get some good data.

I have not shaved R-888's in the past, but wanted to give both tires their best shot, and since the R-888's are heat cycling out anyway before the rubber is gone anyway, I will probably not lose much usable life in any case.

Our set-ups are optimized for R-888's now, but a narrower tire on the same rim should have less dynamic camber loss anyway, so it shouldn't be far off for this tire. Supposed to be in the mid-90's temperature, so it will be interesting to see how the tires compare later in the race.

I will post results in a new thread.

Joel, I take it from your comments that you would not object to your money in the Toyo Kitty being used for this. Andy, Ray & I have all thrown Toyo bucks into this - we need to get a handle on the tire issue!

Yeah go right ahead and use it. It expires in Sept and I won't be ordering tires at this time.

Don't forget you guys have a "connection" in the tire business.
