That's one of the things that I like about this rule, you can spend a million dollars on the best head or bottom, just as long as you only bring out 138/138 to play with, of course with the right curves.

I would guess that lots of times you pay more for reliability and not performance, I haven't heard of any head failures from John's work, which says a lot for his workmanship.

Jons workmanship is first rate and that is what you are paying for. Exactly built to the right tolerances to maximize the available HP in your engine.

I believe that Jon has actually only built a couple of complete engines for 944Spec. Most have only had their heads redone. I have never had a full Milledge engine, only a head rebuild.

Jons real business is SCCA ITS 944 racecars and much higher performance turbo racecars.

I am still new to the world of 944 racing but surely rathe than DQ'ing some it would be better to apply a post-race time penalty. That way if someone is found to be in violation of the rule, their weekend is not ruined by a DQ but they can still race. Obviously, the penalty would have to be big enough to be a severe penalty but not enough to always guarantee last place.

John M. is VERY good and I have worked with him before.....but $2500 for a stock head seems a little outrageous. Of course if it is NOT stock but appears to be stock and has significant flow gains well I guess $2500 is fair. I am not saying that this is the case only that to rebuild a 944 head to exacting factory specs is NOT a $2500 job, period.

Oh and I will be rebuilding my head locally with my direct supervision as I do not have the machines anymore myself. I expect a $200 bill give or take.

Just for clarification, a DQ does not mean you can race the rest of the weekend, but you lose the race you were over HP in. This is the same penalty you get if your car weighed 2599 lbs. Is it fair to be DQ'd over 1 lb? That's a lot less advantage than 1 HP on the dyno.

For the next race, you could turn your FQS to position 4, and almost certainly be legal again.

There is no alteration of the ports or valves. You get new seats, guides, springs, valve stems matched and set to proper height, springs matched by height and tension, etc....

This is no $200 valve job. And I can assure you that unless you have first hand knowledge of what it really takes to rebuild a Porsche head to factory specs you are blowing smoke. Is it expensive? hell yes!

I am fine with you running your $200 head but dont expect to be at the front and on par with HP of all the front running cars, just aint gonna happen.

And of course none of this HP has any meaning if you cant drive the car at 10/10ths lap after lap.
