Hi Rick,

Last race my '88 came in at 2617 with some gas still in it, and I weigh 200lb. And I haven't done things like replace my sunroof panel, remove undercoatings, etc!

As for late cars, I've had two '88's and one '86 that I've gotton down into the low 2,300's out of fuel. The '86 was at 2,308, with the rubber bumpers still on. I had to put in a full cool suit cooler, a pasenger seat, and start the race with at least 2/3 tank to make min weight. I weigh 175. Two of the cars had Hanksville Cages, one had a custom cage in it.

My new '88 is at 2750 with most of the weight removal already done. Of course, I do weigh 250 lbs. My opinion on 2600 vs. 2650 depends on rules enforcement. If changes that lighten the car but have no safety downside or performance upside are OK, then 2600 works for me. On the other hand, I suspect that a strict interpretation of the rules would disqualify most cars that are not early cars with smaller drivers.

Dan,

Your car seems to be an outlier. Even a 150lb driver would be a bit over weight in it. Have you compared it with some others to see why? Battleship cage? Lots of Bondo? Very heavy seat? You could get in any of the 3 late chassis cars I built and be under 2650.

Bondo seems to be pretty common in our old 944's. My driver's side fender had a 1/4" thick layer of bondo covering most of it when I bought the car... rather than taking the fender off the car (a PITA with the undercoating) and pounding it out, they just used massive amounts of bondo. When I ran into Cullen in the parking lot last year, bondo came out of my fender like candy out of a pinata.
