Sorry to miss all you guys today. Lesson to be learnt -- Check your trailer spare really does fit your trailer !
I had a tire blowout on the trailer about a half hour from home this morning. I inspected it on the freeway and then was able to pull down to a close off ramp where I spent some time working out how to jack the trailer axle up with the wimpy jack from the tow vehicle. I called Ken to say I'd be delayed and pulled the spare tire off of the tire rack.
Everything I tried still wouldn't get the spare on the hub. Finally I tried measuring the hole spacing. Sure enough the spare is a 5x4.5 and the trailer takes a 5x5
Ended up calling Tim to come out and take both wheels to the nearest tire shop and have the spare swapped onto the old rim. At that point it was too late for tech so I just turned round and came home.
Lessons:
1) Check your spare really fits.
2) Check your lug wrench fits the trailer
3) Check how you will jack the trailer to change a wheel.
4) Check your jack is strong enough to lift the LOADED trailer.
