Hi 944 Racers!

I want to let you know about a race craft clinic that we are putting on at Thunderhill in January. This is the third year that we have done this, and it's a great time for student and instructor alike. It's a community event to develop your class, and we'd love to get some 944 students and instructors participate. Please visit our web site for full info:

Or Email me.

Thanks!

The Art of Road Racing
Race Craft Clinic
Thunderhill - 30 Jan 2011

Dedicated to the Art of Road Racing, our focus is on race craft: driving in close proximity, off-line, and passing under braking. While pace is necessary, itʼs these battle skills that distinguish the successful road racer. Three run groups:

A. Introduction to race craft

B. Developing your race craft

C. Open/guided test

Perfect for the beginning racer seeking a rookie license, through the experienced racer seeking a first podium. Great preparation for the SCCA licensing school in March.

* 2+ hours on track with instructor
* Classroom lectures by Dean Thomas
* Program by Juan Pineda

Sent Juan an e-mail - sounds really interesting for us in Norcal to get some racecraft improvements.

Having Dean/Laura on board as instructors is a great validation - you can blame Laura as one of my first PCA instructors for my addiction to the track !

I think I'll probably do this to. Can't allow Jerry to get any more advantages over me.

Hey Jerry, Cameron,

It would be great to see you at the clinic! The way we run the track exercises is that we assign four car sparring groups consisting of one instructor and three students. They work together for the entire day. If we get enough 944s, we could create some 944 specific sparring groups. In the spec classes it always helps to group racing buddies together as they tend to run tighter formations, which makes the exercises more effective.

BTW, I'm a Porsche guy too. I started my track career back in 1998 running with Dean and Laura in PCA/GGR, first AX and then Time Trials. Back then I had an '85 911 Targa in Li class. I also campaigned a Spec911 in PRC for a year in 2006. While I love racing my Spec Miata, my favored marque is still Porsche. I still have the Spec911, and also two other street 911's. It seems I'm not very good at letting go of a Porsche once I've acquired it.

As per the e-mail I'm drafting right now, Jerry and I can get some good sparring going. I think we either need to persuade Ron to sign up, or completely discourage him.

Also for this, depending on how weather turns out, I don't suppose anyone has a set of full-tread tires I could rent for the weekend in case there's rain?

Hello everyone,

Some important updates for you if you are considering signing up for our Race Craft Clinic at Thunderhill on Jan 30:

1) In November we reached the 50% point toward our quota of student
entries. So if you are planning to attend, and have not yet completed
registration, consider registering soon to secure your spot.
Registration page here:

2) I have complied a list of track days available between now and our
Jan 30th date. These are great for seat time before our clinic. You
will get the most from the clinic if you are up to speed so you can
concentrate on the race craft that we teach. Look here for the list:

3) We have lined up some great instructors for you from the top of the
field. Here are some names you are sure to recognize (organized by
class:) Darin Polsley, David McAnaney, David Vodden, Mark Drennan,
Randy Evans, Laura Thomas, Dan Mairani, Gary Rieger, Scott Clough,
Greg Peterson, Mike Smith, Rick Lofgren, and David Ray. This is not a
complete list, as we are still recruiting instructors based on student
needs (mostly racing class) and number of entries.

4) We are still trying to get the word out. So please let your racing
circle know about the clinic. Also, we love hearing from buddies that
want to run together in a sparring group. So get your three car group
together and let us know.

If you are planning to attend, but can't complete the registration
yet, please Email me so I know your intent and I'll put you on my
short-short list for critical notifications. I really want to make
sure everyone is accommodated.

And don't hesitate to Email if you have any questions. I look forward
to the possibility of seeing you in January!
