Not legal for spec but might have a close ratio gearset for GTS or PT.

Anybody know anything about this gearbox?

Don't know who the seller is and according to Clark's that's a 944S trans from an '87. It has slightly lower ratios but they don't seem much closer together. The ratio changes are also very slight and might not make much difference but the LSD will!

If anybody is interested I'm a few hours away and can look at it if I have the time but some of our other racers are only a few minutes away and maybe they can be persuaded to take a look

Yep, I came up with the same thing. No 1:1 ratio on any 944. Unless its that really rare factory one off racing gear box!

I am toying with building a GTS2 car to beat the BMWs. I am having Milledge build me a 2.5 liter 200hp motor. Would like to find a 968 gear box so if you see one let me know.

I will also need 16x9 or 17x9 wheels.

Don't hold me to this but I believe the box in the Audi 5000 and maybe the 4000 is essentially the same box with a slightly different bellhousing(no shift linkage hole). I think they have closer gearing but not sure but I do know that some of them have a lower ring & pinion, something along the order of 4.33:1. Would help getting out of corners!

I also believe that later Audi's like the S4 use the same box as the 968.

Maybe somebody else will know for sure but I believe the LSD in the Audi 5000 will slip into our cars no problem and I also think that the AWD Audi's use the same LSD in the rear. They don't hit the junkyards too often but when they do it's usually $25 for the diff. Well worth it just to dee if it fits.

I have heard that the 944 gearbox is an Audi product.
So it would make sense that other Audi gearboxes would fit the 944.
Not sure about the R&P.
I do know for a fact that my SpecE30 differential shares many of the same parts as the 944. It is mostly the shims and clutches.
