TOPIC: Az vs So-Cal inter-regional challenge?

Az vs So-Cal inter-regional challenge? 12 years, 6 months ago #12478

Some of you may remember we and Az vs So-cal southwest championship series af few years back. That consisted of 8 races and 4 events. 2 events in So-cal and 2 events in Arizona with typically 2 events in spring and 2 in fall.

Seems like we can do the same for 2012 as we have already had the 2 spring events plannned.

Event 1 Feb 4-5 at Chuckwalla - Az hosted
Event 2 March 3-4 at Autoclub - So-Cal hosted

Event 3 So-cal TBD
Event 4 Az TBD

We can create a simple points race among the 8 races and findout who is the fasted 944 racer in the desert. Who is game?

Don't have to ask me twice! I vote Inde for race #4.

I remember this "series". The problem was that, while it seems like a great idea, it was not successful the last time it was tried. Only two guys made the 4 events. Dave Hauck won the series but he never got his trophy or any other recognition for his win. It was like it never happened.

It seems that the logistics are even tougher than before with the loss of PIR. Now, other than Chuckwalla, which has no place to stay anywhere close, the only Az options are Firebird (the tracks are not very fun) or Inde (which will take forever to get to, perhaps 8 to 10 hours).

For So Cal, other than Auto Club, the other tracks are a much longer tow for
Az guys and, with the economic situation right now, most guys are having to be selective about which events they spend their money on, which makes a long tow to an out of region event expensive and even harder to justify.

If you want to get this going, you might think about getting Dave his trophy, for the last one, before you start another one.

However, good luck with it.

Guys,
Anyone in on this crossover series?

Looking for Events 3 and 4.

Combined Az/ Socal Schedule.

Feb 4/5- Chuckwalla Raceway- NASA Az hosted - So-Cal Crossover
March 3/4- -Auto Club Speedway Socal Hosted - NASA AZ Crossover

March 31 - Firebird Main - Night race - Az

April 21/22- Buttonwillow - So-Cal
May 5&6 Inde (Wilcox, Az 3 hrs east of Phx) - Az
May- 26/27- Willow Springs - So-Cal
June - 2&3 - Firebird East - Az (Early Morning event)
June 23/24- Buttonwillow - So-cal - Plus will have 3hr day in to night enduro
July- 28/29th- Auto Club Speedway - So-cal
August 24/25 Firebird West - AZ Fri/Sat Nights
Sept 6-9th- Mid Ohio *National Championship*
Oct 6-7 Inde (Wilcox, Az 3 hrs east of Phx) - Az
Oct 13/14- Buttonwillow - So-cal
Oct 27&28 - Firebird Main - Az
Nov- 10/11- Buttonwillow - So-cal
Dec 1-2 - Chuckwalla (Annual Az Enduro event also) Az

Ok do we want 8 races on 4 different tracks?

Here is my thinking on Az events.

Chuckwalla is good because it halfway between Az and So-cal core groups. INDE is a fun track, but a long haul for San Diego/ La Area drivers being a solid 3 hrs east of the center of Phx. So that would about 9 hrs.

With PIR out and AMP limited to no racing due to sound issues. That leaves Firebird Main. Nice track and with configuratoin we ran this weekend pretty flowing too. Will post videos later today. Plus in Phx so we have plenty of places to stay etc. Pro Paddock that we used also allows of for execellent viewing of the racing.

So So-cal boys.
Option 1 - Oct 27/28 at Firebird Main - Option 2 Dec 1-2 Chuckwalla. Saturday's race will be be an enduro any where from 1hr to 3hrs. Sunday will be sprint.

Az boys...
We have one stop at Autoclub in March (est 5-6 hr tow). After that we can do Willow (6-7 hr tow) at the end of May. Temps will be hot, but slightly cooler than Phx so not that bad. Willow is really cool track. Very fast with nice elevation change. The other option is Buttonwillow (7hr tow) which is supposed to be fun. Nice twisty bits.
Options 1 - May 27/28 Willow Springs
Option 2 - June 23/24 Buttonwillow (with day into night 3hr enduro option)
Option 3 - November 10/11 Buttonwillow.

If Tim or someone can come up with a couple of cars to rent, Neal Agran and I will join you guys at the Autoclub event
