TOPIC: Advice for a new guy.

Advice for a new guy. 10 years, 2 months ago #18264

Hello all,
I'm wondering what is necessary to get involved in 944 Spec racing. I have a 85 that I'm in the processes of building per the Spec class rules and have raced circle track for a few years now.
I plan on having some fun at track days but would like to move into some compilation in the future. What is necessary other than the obvious car, safety gear. Is there any special license that I need to obtain?

First of all, where are you located? That will help us point you in the right direction as far as region and who to license with.

Every road racing organization requires some sort of license to race. Each one is a bit different on how to go about attaining it. In order to run open lapping events such as Drivers Education, all you need is the car to pass the safety inspection and be of age/have a drivers license.

As far as car prep goes, its pretty straightforward so long as you follow the Spec rule set and the general safety rules and regulations for the series you are going to run with.

Work is in progress on this build, interior is stripped and I have gutted the wiring down to the minimum lights, wipers and such.
I bought some seats and belts (they were on sale )
A roll cage is on order so the fun will continue.

Ohio would put you in the Great Lakes region, which crosses over with the Midwest region. Brad Raum is the series director over there. email me at eric dot kuhns at gmail dot com, and I'll get you connected with Brad.

There are several build threads in the build forums on the website - lots to be learned from them.
