TOPIC: thoughts on hybrid open closed helmets

I am thinking about getting a new helmet and have seen the new "hybrid" helmets from Bell and G-Force.

Thoughts? Both are hans compliant.

I had a bell like that. It was that helmet in a SA95 version. It was fine, but a few times I got rubber in the eye hole when a faster car passed me. Usally that car was on slicks and we were in a fast turn. Still once that helmet expired I got a full face one with shield. I run shield down most of the time and especialy at the starts. I will run it open when it is hot and there is little traffic.

Full face is my preference. If I'm going to get into a situation where I actually use my helmet, I'm really not going to want to smash my face on something or let fire burn it off, so open-face and "hybrid" helmets just don't make sense to me.

I also find plenty of crap coming in through the windows during races. I've had my face shield open a few times and got pelted in the face, and sometimes it got past my sunglasses too.

Thanks.

I currently run a full face so I will stick with that style.

Agree with the posts above. Nothing like something stuck in your eye to affect your driving.
