There is a guy in my area selling an 87 944. He's asking $3000 but sounds like he is willing to deal. The question I have is where do you find the numbers on the transmission to determine if it has LS and 5th gear installed?

look under garage shop manual section. then go to transaxle.
i think its under the general info section.
it has everything you need.

Top of the tranny on the bell housing. Hard if not impossible to see while in the car still.

If the tranny is original then you can determine the 5th gear ratio from the year and LSD from either option code M0220 or from rear wheel spin in the air test.
