What does everybody use for a thermostat? I know on the car I crew on at a local track we use just a plate with a hole. I was wondering does anybody make such a plate for the 944. I don't want to worry about a stuck thermostat at the track. I could make one but I need to know what size hole to put in the plate. Thanks for any help

For what it's worth, I've never seen a thermostat problem on a 944.

Run the thermostat - your car will thank you.

I've had a defective thermostat from new, but have also never seen one go bad. The cars take a long time to warm up as it is, running the oil coolers, etc. Without a thermostat, it would be a lot of cold running.

If you really felt compelled, you could gut a thermostat...

There are at least two temperature t-stats. A 71C and 83C. I use the 71C as it opens a little sooner. I suggest running a t-stat since the engine works better like this. Warms up sooner and actually cools better. You may run without one as I have seen a few fail over the years, but that was mostly years ago. Seems like a newer one is less likely to have issues than a 20 year old one.
