TOPIC: Dyno Cap for 2013 944 Spec

Re: Dyno Cap for 2013 944 Spec 12 years, 1 month ago #14415

First, I'd like to commend Eric and the other directors and racers that participated in all of the discussions and data collection that went into this decisions for a job well done. I am very supportive of this rule as I firmly believe it will keep the level of effort and cost of fielding a top tier 944 in check.

We have known from the beginning of this class what we wanted from it, and what we were trying to keep it from becoming. This new rule is only a speed bump in the continued growth and success of our great class. Thanks to everyone involved, but especially to Eric Kuhns for his smooth, reasoned leadership.

Maybe we can reset the class car count record at Nationals with 944 Spec at the top. What's the largest class attendance so far?

I favor the cap.

Looking at the numbers Eric posted from the nationals dyno pulls, it looks like 140s are the exception rather than the rule. I also think we should use the dynos in 2013 to get a better set of data to look at. I don't think the national champ cars are necessarily representative of the entire class.

I personally believe 135 is the better number for reliability sake. To Eric's point about not catching the average guy out, I would make 135 the number and allow a three hp variance. Effectively making 138 a bright line standard.

Thanks for proposing this change. I apologize if I rehashed previous points but did not have time to read all of the posts.

As I understand the rule, dyno testing will require the oil to be a minimum of 160. Is that correct?

Does it specify what gear the pull is to be made in?

I know 4th gear is the normal, but maybe it should be specified/clarified.
