Just did this mod thanks toa free set from Jim Richmond.
Total weight savings was 2 lbs.
Kinda hard to justfy if you have to pay for them.
Why did this rule happen?

Lets stop making rules just for the fun of it.

The point was to give a place to duct air. The fact that it doesn't save weight is a factor in favor of allowing, i.e. there is no performance advantage so everyone doesn't feel like they have to do it.

After several years of denying this, clean air for ducting/driver cooling (without limiting egress by putting it in the door window) argument won out.

That said, I see no need to change any rules this year, and declare a rules freeze for 2015.

I'm only 1/2 kidding. We'll open up silly season after the championships, but expect an uphill battle on changes - I don't see anything that needs addressing at this time.

After driving 2 borrowed 944 Spec cars in three different events this year, I would like to propose a rule change that eliminates me missing shifts...I guess I should just stay with AI cars.
