Weston, Bottoz,

How do you go about equalizing cars to within 5 HP in a racetrack environment?

Supposing you can, how often do you recheck cars to re-equalize them, since a simple tune up (plugs, wires, airfilters), can be done any time, and easily net a 5 HP improvement.

How do you keep the same individuals who you are concerned about, from working the system (purposfully install dirty air filter, then remove it after "equalization"), without accidentally penalizing the guy who just changes a filter, plugs, etc, because it's time, or his car isn't running quite right?
a
If you really want to "equalize" motors, you've got to deal with all these issues, or as I've said before, you're just handing out random penalties. That's a mess for class moral.

If we gather data, we can see over time, what makes for a significant difference, but we are a long ways off from knowing that now. Too much noise in the data right now.

Finally, how much laptime is 5 HP worth on an average track, would you guess?

Weston

In order to change the rules there need to be data to show what you are saying. We should not change rules based on perception, and have to refute perception with data to keep the rules stable.

It will take a LOT of HP to make 1 sec per lap, more than can be gained from going to a good running older build, to a fresh motor. I have posted data to back this up, and can do it again...

A good setup, vs. an average one, will easily gain that much time, and corner balancing & alignments costs money...

The guys with the good motors, liekly also have the good setups.

We found a guy who was cheating last year. Everyone swore he had more motor, so we checked it in detail, and eventually even got some data. We found his motor was no better, but he had altered the steel a-arms to gain better geometry, and track. he was cheating, but not for the reasons everyone swore he was. Perception is not always reality.

sounds like we have no problems.

RMR will gather data and make changes as needed. If a rule change is needed for 2012 we will deal with it then.

So you have it your way , Now please go and grow your region with this power and show us how right you are !

it's all good !

just to be clear none of my posts are aimed at anyone person. I try ... to be vague so as not to offend anyone.

so how are we going to grow 944-spec in 2011 ?

So-Cal is planning on stealing drivers from Nor-Cal and AZ

But really we will have to recruit drivers from HPDE and the drivers schools within NASA.

A little at track advertising might help like banners and such.

Unfortunately we are driving a car that does not attract alot of people. Even though it is good looking and drives great it does not have a broad appeal to most folks.

There are alot of people out of work so the potential new driver pool is smaller.

In terms of cost we are still one of the lowest cost entry classes out there.
You can get in for as little as $5,000. For a few more you can get a pretty good car. For $15K you can buy mine. (shameless plug)

There is only a few spec classes in NASA that has any car count on the west coast. Spec E30, 944 and Spec Miata. None of them seem to be growing right now. We will be lucky to keep who we got.

OK guys - 9 pages of arguments here, and not one post on the rule change proposal - give it a thumbs up or down there - that's were it counts!
